Recent work on Euclidean quantum gravity, black hole thermodynamics, and the holographic principle has seen return of random matrix models as a powerful tool. It is explained how they allow for study physics well beyond perturbative expansion. In fact, fully nonperturbative treatment naturally unites familiar approach summing over smooth geometries all topologies with statistical to characterize typical properties Hamiltonian. Remarkably, this leads an explicit excavation underlying microstates gravity that applications low-temperature dynamics large class holes.
